Elec Lightin' Art
Elec Lightin' Art is a lighting distributor that manages a mix of stock and non-stock products. The company specializes in providing a wide array of lighting solutions, ranging from standard, readily available fixtures to unique, custom-ordered pieces that are not kept in regular inventory
The challenge
Elec Lightin' Art's primary operational challenge was efficiently managing non-stock, special-order products. Creating a new stock item for every unique customer request was impractical and led to a cluttered product database. They needed an automated Make-to-Order (MTO) process specifically for these items that would trigger a purchase from the correct supplier. Financially, they lacked a clear system to monitor a customer's total financial exposure against a predefined credit limit, creating risk. They also needed to correctly account for and invoice environmental taxes like Bebat and Recupel.
dear digital’s solutions
To streamline procurement, a "D-article" system was implemented. This allows generic, non-stock items to be sold, which automatically creates a linked purchase order using Make-to-Order and lot tracking to reserve the item for the specific customer. A financial risk tab was added to contacts to monitor exposure against credit limits, with manager override capabilities. The accounting system was configured to handle fixed-amount environmental taxes like Bebat and Recupel. A user-configurable chatter position was also added to improve screen real estate.
The results
With dear digital’s solutions, Elec Lightin' Art has resolved its key operational challenges. The company now efficiently handles unique, non-stock orders with a new system, which automates the Make-to-Order process. A dedicated credit limit monitoring system gives them better control over financial risks. Plus, their accounting is now accurate and compliant thanks to the proper handling of environmental taxes.
