Hi everyone,

I am using Odoo Point of Sale (V19) and have run into an issue when selling multiple physical gift cards in a single order.

My Setup:

  • I have a Gift Card program configured.

  • I have a "Gift Card" product linked to this program.

  • I have pre-printed physical cards with my own unique sequences/barcodes.

The Problem: When I sell a gift card, I scan/enter the code and it works perfectly. However, if I try to add a second gift card to the same order, Odoo merges the two lines into one (Quantity: 2). Because they are merged, I cannot input a unique code for the second card.

Currently, I have to manually add a "Note" to separate them, but this is not a sustainable workflow.

Question: Is there a configuration setting to "Allow Duplicate Lines" or prevent the "Merge Lines" behavior specifically for Gift Card products in POS? I need each gift card to remain as a separate line item so I can assign unique codes to each.

Hi,

In Odoo POS v19, the behavior you’re encountering is expected and not caused by a misconfiguration. The POS system automatically merges order lines when the same product with the same price is added multiple times. Gift cards are treated like standard products, so adding the same gift card twice results in a single line with an increased quantity rather than separate lines.

This design works for digital or balance-based gift cards but conflicts with the sale of physical gift cards that each have a unique, pre-printed code. Because the POS line represents a quantity rather than individual items, Odoo only allows one code per line, making it impossible to assign multiple unique codes when lines are merged.

There is no standard POS or product-level setting in Odoo v19 to disable line merging or to “allow duplicate lines” specifically for gift card products. This behavior is hard-coded into the POS frontend logic.

As a result, selling multiple physical gift cards in a single order while assigning unique codes to each one is not fully supported out of the box. The only correct solution is a small POS customization that forces gift cards to always create a new line. Workarounds such as one gift card per order or using notes are possible but not scalable or cashier-friendly.
