Thanks, for your reply. Yes, I also see that there could be an issue with multiple attributes and permutations. But normally you would like to have this option only on one attribute (e.g. showing images for the "color" attribute). Best would be to solve it over the display type in attribute settings (add an option "variation image").

And yes,it's possible to have multiple images in a variant product. But the attribute image could always be the main image of the variation (and not using the additional media).

I know this is missing feature. less explored but certainly needed for the any apparal business.
The reason behind is - there are multiple permutations of variants in case we have more than 1 variant attribute. 
Odoo supports different variant images in the backend. the Only feature to be extended is to load that on the eCommerce product details view.

It can be solved with minor ecommerce customization.
