Hello,

I am using Odoo 18 Enterprise and I need to update some existing Journal Items.

I exported the Journal Items list, modified some values in the exported file, and now I want to import the updated data back into Odoo. However, I noticed that the Import button is not available on the Journal Items (account.move.line) list view, while it is available on many other models.

Is this the standard behavior in Odoo 18? If so, what is the recommended way to perform a bulk update on existing Journal Items using an import file?

My goal is to update existing records rather than create new ones.

You can import Journal Entries, you should be able to update them (if in draft) by exporting, updating and importing - including the Journal Items in each Journal Entry. Have you tried that?

The recommended approach depends on what you need to update and whether the related journal entries are in Draft or Posted status. In many cases, updates should be performed through the parent Journal Entry rather than directly on Journal Items. For large-scale changes, a custom import/update process may be required.

Yes, this is standard behavior in Odoo 18. The Import option is not available for Journal Items (account.move.line) because they are accounting entries generated from source documents, and Odoo restricts direct modifications to preserve accounting integrity.


If you need to update journal items, the recommended approach is to update the originating document (invoice, bill, payment, or journal entry) and let Odoo regenerate the entries. For posted entries, direct bulk updates via import are not supported out of the box.
