Odoo 18

When printing items to the preparation printer, if the ordered items have multiple variant options, not all options are printed.

These options print fine on the normal POS receipt, yet are missing on the Kitchen order Ticket.

It seems that the KOT has a limitation of 2/3 lines of text per item whereas the receipt will printout as many lines as needed.

How can this be corrected?

Also on the KOT how can the Product font size & bold be increased to the same as the header, so it is easier to read all options.

Hi,

In Odoo 18, the Kitchen Order Ticket (KOT) has a built-in limitation on the number of text lines displayed per order line.Because of this limitation, not all product variant options or attributes are printed on the KOT, even though they appear correctly on the standard POS receipt.The KOT layout is intentionally kept simple for kitchen readability, unlike the customer receipt which can expand to multiple lines.
By default, Odoo does not allow configuration of the KOT to:
        Expand item descriptions
        Display all variant options
        Increase product font size
        Change font weight (boldness)

    Any changes to the KOT layout or styling require custom POS frontend development, involving modifications to the QWeb/JS templates.If you are using Odoo Enterprise, the recommended approach is to raise a support ticket with Odoo.Alternatively, the issue or enhancement request can be reported on the Odoo GitHub, as manual KOT customization is not supported out of the box.

Hi James,

I would suggest creating a support ticket for the issue at Odoo stating your Enterprise subscription (if available) or directly in the Odoo GitHub (https://github.com/odoo/odoo) - this is the fastest way to address these issues at Odoo, as I assume that the KOT issue is not implemented correctly.

By default, no changes can be made manually to the order ticket - this also applies to the font size and font thickness, among other things.

Hi James,

You've hit on a real frustration – kitchen staff need to see all the variant options to prepare orders correctly. Missing toppings or modifications on a KOT defeats the whole purpose.

About your specific issue:

Chris is right that this appears to be a limitation in how Odoo's KOT template handles multi-line variant text. The standard receipt template has more flexibility, but the KOT template seems to truncate after 2-3 lines to keep tickets compact. Unfortunately, there's no built-in setting in the UI to change font size or remove this limitation.

Potential approaches:

  1. Technical fix (requires dev knowledge): You could modify the KOT QWeb template to remove line limits and adjust CSS for larger fonts. This involves inheriting the point_of_sale.OrderReceipt template and customizing the variant display section. It's doable but requires technical expertise.
  2. Raise it as a bug: Since variant options print fine on receipts but not KOTs, this does seem like an inconsistency worth reporting. Submit it through Odoo's GitHub (https://github.com/odoo/odoo) as Chris suggested, or through your Enterprise support channel if you have one.

Alternative consideration:
