This behavior is expected in Sales Orders.

In the Sales Order configurator, the quantity of the combo line is applied to all combo choices together. Therefore:

• Qty = 1 → you can select 1 table + 1 chair

• Qty = 4 → you can select 4 tables + 4 chairs

So a single combo choice with “Maximum = 4” for chairs does not work the same way in Sales Orders as it does in POS.

To achieve exactly 1 table and 4 chairs in Sales Orders, the recommended workaround is:

Create 5 combo choices:

• Table Choice

  • Maximum = 1

  • Includes = 1

  • Options: all table color variants

• Chair Choice 1

  • Maximum = 1

  • Includes = 1

  • Options: all chair color variants

• Chair Choice 2

  • Maximum = 1

  • Includes = 1

  • Options: all chair color variants

• Chair Choice 3

  • Maximum = 1

  • Includes = 1

  • Options: all chair color variants

• Chair Choice 4

  • Maximum = 1

  • Includes = 1

  • Options: all chair color variants

Then when adding the Dining Set in a Sales Order, the user will choose:

• 1 table color

• Chair color #1

• Chair color #2

• Chair color #3

• Chair color #4

This is currently the most practical native workaround for Odoo 18/19 Sales Orders, while POS can still use the original “4-chair” combo choice normally.

You’re absolutely right — this is a known limitation.

While Combo Products work well in POS, in Sales Orders, they do not enforce fixed quantity structures (like 1 table + 4 chairs), which is why you're seeing flexible combinations instead.

For your requirement, you can consider:

• Phantom BoM (Kit): Define a set product with 1 table + 4 chairs
  → This ensures correct structure in Sales
  → However, it will need some customization to allow color selection flexibility
• Customizing Combo behavior in Sales:
  → Extend the combo logic to enforce fixed quantities (1 + 4) while still allowing variant selection

Standard Odoo doesn’t fully support this exact use case out of the box across both Sales and POS, so a small customization would be the most robust solution.
