We do a lot of outside anodizing. I would really like the anodizing to be a subcontract operation in the operations instead of a completely different part number. Right now the unanodized part has a number and the anodized number has a different part using resupply on subcontract to create the base MO's. Anyone else do this?

Many manufacturers handle processes like anodizing, plating, painting, or heat treatment this way.
Your current setup (two part numbers: unanodized → anodized using subcontracting with resupply) is a common approach in Odoo because it provides clear inventory and traceability. However, it does create extra products and MOs.
If you want to keep a single product, another option is to model anodizing as a subcontracted operation in the routing:
Create an operation like "Anodizing" in the routing.
Assign it to a work center representing the subcontractor.
The MO will include that step as part of the production process.
This keeps:
One product
One BOM/MO
The external process visible in the routing.
The two-product method is still better if you need strict traceability between raw and treated parts, but using a subcontracted operation is often cleaner for processes that are just a production step.

What you're looking for is a common request. Setting up subcontracting as an operation is doable, but how do you want to handle the subcontract portion when it reaches that operation in manufacturing? Do you want purchasing to be notified when it reaches that step so they can place a purchase order? Do you want it to automatically generate an RFQ? You can create a service product called Anodizing that you could then place an order for.
