Is there a proper way to transfer all our Odoo v8 records to Odoo v9?
When installed, v9 shows v8's database in database selector, but doesn't allow to choose it.

The database needs to be upgraded. You can use OpenUpgrade https://github.com/OCA/OpenUpgrade/tree/9.0 but it ain't ready yet for v9.0. Manual: https://doc.therp.nl/openupgrade/
