Wide Awake Coffee is a company that manufactures and sells coffee products, specifically sealed bags of roasted coffee beans. They handle the entire supply chain from purchasing green beans to manufacturing roasted coffee in batches and finally producing the finished coffee bags.
The challenge
The company needed a way to manage a complex, multi-level manufacturing process that starts with purchasing green beans and ends with sealed bags of roasted coffee. A major hurdle was handling large shipments of green beans that arrive at a port but remain vendor-owned until they are transferred in smaller quantities to the main warehouse for production. It was required to automate the manufacturing process and ensure that the production of one item, like coffee bags, would automatically trigger the production of its components, like roasted beans, if stock was low.

The solution by dear digital involved implementing a robust supply chain process in Odoo to automate manufacturing and purchasing. It uses bill of materials and reordering rules to create a chain reaction where demand for finished products automatically triggers the production of semi-finished goods. Additionally, the system was configured to manage vendor-owned stock at the port location and only value it once it is transferred to the main warehouse, ensuring accurate accounting and inventory management.
The results
The implemented Odoo system has successfully streamlined the company’s supply chain, automating manufacturing orders and ensuring optimal stock levels for both roasted beans and finished coffee bags. The system’s ability to manage fixed-batch production for roasted beans and allocate surplus stock for future use has improved manufacturing efficiency. It also provides a clear and accurate way to handle vendor-owned stock at the port, ensuring proper valuation only upon transfer to the main warehouse.
