Eco Basics is a company that produces and distributes organic food under its own brand and for third parties. Since its inception in 2011, it has had a clear objective: to offer products that are as healthy as they are organic and to manage the company in the same way.
It works every day to offer the best options to those who seek quality food that is certified organic and affordable. Driven by respect for its customers and products, cooperation with farmers and integrity in its processes are the fundamental pillars of Eco Basics.
Eco Basics' activity can be summarized as follows: production or import of raw materials, manufacturing, packaging, and distribution. They do this both under the Eco Basics brand and for third-party brands.
Since the beginning with Odoo
Eco Basics was founded in 2011, and the company began using Odoo as its management software from the outset. At that time, Odoo was called Open ERP, and Eco Basics started with version 6.0 of the system.
The reasons why they decided to start directly with Odoo were the need to control both storage and production. Traceability, stock control, and data analysis were essential for Eco Basics. Not having these options in the system would mean a lack of control, when the most important thing for a storage company is absolute control and immediate access to information, as well as its analysis.
When starting the company and looking for management software that would accompany them both at the beginning and as they grew, Eco Basics evaluated different options, such as Microsoft Dynamics, SAP, Sage, Holded, and A3. They finally opted for Odoo in terms of functionality, features, cost, and scalability. They found a tool that could accompany them through all stages, regardless of their growth and how the company evolved.
The fine-tuning
When they began implementation, once the tool had been decided upon, Eco Basics was clear about the three critical points for the implementation to be successful. With that in mind, they began working with Daruma to implement the system, configuring the standard as far as possible and making the necessary developments to comply with:
Inventory control: Essential for Eco Basics, they needed to control product traceability, know the stock levels at all times, and forecast in order to make purchases and avoid stock shortages for their customers.
Traceability: For a food company, it is essential to be able to perform mass balance exercises and traceability up and down the supply chain in order to easily identify any potential food safety alerts.
Manufacturing: At Eco Basics, they try to manufacture small batches tailored to the products requested by the customer, not only in terms of quantities but also different types of designs, films, boxes, etc. It is always a challenge to carry out and control the status of production planning for 17 packaging machines, with their respective operators and shifts.
To carry out the implementation, there was an initial phase of analysis and theory to try to have everything tied up when it was time to start. To do this, we analyzed whether the standard Odoo solution met all the needs or whether some development would be necessary. Once we determined that it would be necessary, we analyzed and prioritized the developments, planning all the improvements that would have to be made according to the plan.
In this case, the role of Daruma, the official Odoo partner in charge of implementation, was fundamental. The provision of information, communication, and feedback were indispensable in transforming the initial fears faced by Eco Basics into simple checks and tests.
All of this helped them to have a fully functional product from day one, with an improvement strategy linked to the company's own continuous improvement. Thus, Eco Basics has been working with Odoo since its inception and will continue to do so.
