Hello, I have many products that I purchase using "Units" Uom, "gal (US)" UoM and "L" UoM, but when I manufacture I measure everything out using grams. Is there a way to be able to have Units, gal (US) and L as the purchase UoM, but then use a gram UoM in the bill of materials?

I was able to figure this out on my own. For anyone trying to accomplish the same, here is what I did; I created a new Units of Measure Category and then created the Reference Unit of Measure for this category as the UoM I use to purchase under called "Gallon(s)". I then created a unit of measure called "gram(s)" under the same new category and made it's type "Smaller than the reference Unit of Measure" and gave the ratio a value of 3,785, since I know that I can easily get 3,785 grams out of 1 gallon. And this works perfectly! After my first purchase order was paid, it automatically calculated the cost per gram for me.
If anyone has a better solution, please feel free to post it here. But this one seems to work perfect for me.
Yes, this way to solve it is possible. But it comes with a warning: These customized UOM is only valid for these specific products. You run a risk that they might be used by mistake on other products. And then you run into problems.
Since you purchase all in volume (L and Gal), my recommendation would have been to also use volume in BOM. And then take the effort to calculate gram (I guess that is the recipe) into L / dl . If you stick to ISO units, the risk of mistakes are reduced.
Hi Lars, thank you for your response. I would love to be able to do this, but not all of the gallons I order have the same density. Therefore, I would be unable to use the standard UoM on all of them, across the board. However, I have made sure to label the UoM's to correspond with the product, so there is no confusion at all.
