We have two companies that are both individual legal (tax) entities and I need to transfer stock between them. Company A is responsible for Sales, Shipping, purchasing the parts needed for manufacture, and Company B is responsible for manufacturing and storing of these now manufactured products.

How do I set this up in Odoo?

I've read up on routes, but one company can't see the other company's stock location and I assume you have to use some kind of virtual destination, but how can I transfer (push/pull) all the  necessary BOM parts for the MO without adding them one by one?

The standard way would be that Company A raises a Purchase Order to Company B which then delivers them to Company A.

Hi Christopher,

There are 2 ways to achieve the end goal, 
First & the most favourable way is to Create SO-PO between both entities, one one will be procuring goods & other will be doing sales (if this is for inter-company you can keep sales price=cost)

Second option will be suitable if your end goal is just to transfer stock from one company to other, you can use "Transit location" 

As this will help you with movement of goods (Note: your inventory valuation will get affected as you are moving goods without creating any financial transaction)
You can do internal transfer & select 'Transit Location' as Source location (comp A) on one side & destination (comp B) location on other side

I'm having a hard time getting Odoo configured correctly.

I've setup the two companies and a sales order is automatically generated in company B when company A places an order, however I cannot get the BOM parts transferred to company B. I'm not even sure if this is the correct flow, should the parts be transferred or will the parts just get consumed when the assembly arrives back from company B?

This is how my product route diagrams look like:

Hello Christopher,

Yes, this can be achieved in Odoo, but since both companies are separate legal entities, the recommended approach is usually to use Inter-Company Transactions rather than direct stock transfers between internal locations.

A common setup is:

  • Company A creates a Purchase Order to Company B.
  • Company B automatically receives a Sales Order and manufactures the required products.
  • BOM components are consumed through the Manufacturing Order in Company B.
  • Finished goods are delivered back to Company A through the inter-company flow.

Direct push/pull routes between company warehouses can be challenging because each company only has access to its own locations. Inter-company sales/purchase flows provide proper inventory valuation, traceability, and accounting between the two legal entities.
