The main reason for choosing to have just one product is to reduce the total number of products in the inventory.

Hello Richard,

For manufacturing you would require to have multiple products so you can create several BoMs. Indeed, Odoo would not allow to have "looping" BoM.

To complete the flow, first enable dropship and subcontracting.

In terms of product, my advise would be to create the followings : 

• Raw material
• • route : Resupply Subcontractor on Order, and buy if you purchase them to replenish
• Cut product
• • BoM : 
  • • Component : raw material
    • Subcontracted 
    • Set the subcontractor on the BoM AND on the purchase tab of the product
  • Route : dropship subcontractor on order + buy
• Polished product
• • BoM : 
  • • Component : Cut product
    • Subcontracted 
    • Set the subcontractor on the BoM AND on the purchase tab of the product
  • Route : Buy
  • Reorder rules so the product is replenished when final product has a manufacturing order.
• Final product : 
• • BoM "manufactured" with the polished product as component
  • Route : manufactured

We often name product after the status of it.

May I ask why you'd need to have a single product throughout the entire process. Is there any particular reasons
