Hello!

I'm wondering if someone knows how to change the invoice sequence so that it matches the invoice creation date.

Example:

Today's date: 27/06/2026

I would like the invoice sequence to look like this:

  • INV/2026/06/27/00001
    or
  • INV/2026-06-27/0001

I checked the different settings available (Developer Mode > Select records > Resequence), and it seems to work only with the year and month. However, when I try to include the day in the sequence, it doesn't work.


Does anyone know a workaround or a fix for this?


I also checked in Settings > Technical > Sequences, but I couldn't find the invoicing sequence there.

Hello Thomas,

Yes, this is possible in Odoo, but in Odoo 19.3 the standard resequencing feature mainly supports Year and Month formatting only.

Invoice numbering is now managed through the Accounting Journal sequence configuration rather than the general Technical > Sequences menu, which is why you may not find it there.

To achieve a format like:

INV/2026/06/27/00001

you would typically need a small customization to extend the journal sequence logic and include the invoice day dynamically in the prefix.

A workaround could also be done through custom sequence formatting or automated resequencing logic, depending on your exact accounting/legal requirements.

I know my previous answer is different and somone deleted it.
Regarding your request to change the invoice numbering format, I would like to clarify that invoice sequences are strictly managed by the system's backend architecture. Because this logic is hardcoded into the application's core processing layer, it cannot be modified via the frontend or standard user settings.
