In general, it’s never necessary to have an IoT box in order to be able to print receipts in your POS. However, depending on the implementation needs, you might want to use an IoT. 

Without IoT : 

• Your printer supports ePOS SDK Javascript : you will find a list of compatible devices here : https://c4b.epson-biz.com/modules/community/index.php?content_id=91

=> Please note that we recommend EPSON printers even though others printers might work too. We didn’t test it though. 

• Your printer does not support ePOS SDK Javascript : in this case, you could make sure the printer is recognized by your OS as a printer by installing the correct drivers. The printing of the receipt won’t be automated but you will still be able to print the receipt from your receipt printer. 

With an IoT box : 

• Your printer supports ESC-POS or STAR protocol. We recommend to use thermal receipt printers like EPSON TM-T20II but other printers with ESC-POS or STAR will work. The configuration is more complex as they don’t print the pairing code to the IoT box, which basically means that you should always link a monitor to your IoT when you do the first setup.
