Does odoo code in docker really gets updated, cuz I have pulled a latest odoo image from docker and checked its source code, and I have found that it is not up to date as compared to the source code on github.

Why is that so, or is there anything I am doing wrong.

For example, I was checking the code at line 41 in _select_sale() method in addons/pos_sale/report/sale_report.py, and the docker latest version is not the same as on github.

The official Odoo Docker images may lag behind the latest GitHub source. Use a custom Dockerfile or build from source for the latest features.

Hello,

This is expected behavior and you are not doing anything wrong.

Official Odoo Docker images are NOT built from the latest GitHub
commits. They are built from stable branches or specific, tested
commits that Odoo has validated.

The GitHub repository usually contains newer commits that:
- are still under development
- are not yet backported
- are not part of an official release

As a result, the code inside Docker images (odoo:latest or odoo:17.0)
can lag behind the current GitHub source.

For example, differences in methods like
_addons/pos_sale/report/sale_report.py → _select_sale()
are normal if the change exists only on GitHub and has not yet been
included in a released Docker build.

If you need an exact GitHub version, you have two options:
1) Build your own Docker image from the desired Git branch or commit
2) Mount a locally cloned Odoo source into the Docker container

In short:
- Docker images = stable, tested snapshots
- GitHub = ongoing development
