Formed in 2007, Ports Projects Management and Development Company (PPMDC) was established to become a leading company in the field of port management and development.

Because of Jeddah's closeness to Islam's holy cities of Mecca and Medina, the airport stands for one feature in particular, the Hajj Terminal; especially built of handling foreign pilgrims destined for Mecca to take part in the rituals associated with Ummrah and the annual Hajj.

King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) is located 19 km to the north of Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. It is Saudi Arabia's third largest air facility. In order to accommodate the increasing number of pilgrims, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia built a dedicated terminal for the pilgrims at KAIA. The terminal is divided into two locations separated by a road.

Every location has five modules for the pilgrims and each building has two gates connected with two air bridges leading to the aircraft directly. The Hajj Terminal covers over 405,000 m² and is known for its tent-shaped roof. It offers pilgrims many facilities, including a mosque and hotel, and can accommodate 80,000 travellers daily.

15 tents per module of white colored Teflon-coated fiberglass fabric suspended from pylons, are grouped together into two blocks of five modules and separated by a landscaped mall between the blocks. Only customs, baggage handling and similar facilities are located in an air-conditioned building. The vast majority of the complex, called "Terminal Support Area", is a flexible, open area, conceived to function like a village, complete with souk (market) and mosque. Not enclosed by walls, this area is sheltered from the intense sun while allowing for natural ventilation
