We are an engineering workshop that does a lot of custom orders. Rarely do we have repeat jobs.

We are implementing Odoo V14 and have turned off the auto replenish so our guys will go in and then select the BOM they want after order - sometimes we need to change parts etc based on availability of suppliers.

We process our own parts from large sheets of plate (metal) on our plasma cutter. We do not always buy a standard size sheet - due to availability or a full sheet may be way more than what we need for a specific job. i.e. it could be 6,000 x 2,400 x 12mm plate this week and next we may buy 9,000 x 3,000 x 12mm plate depending on what our suppliers actually have. However from our perspective they are the same product - just a different size of the sheet.

Questions:

1) What is the best way to deal with different size sheets for the same product?

2) How do people manage the size of the sheets - we have set weights in the inventory and the volume. Also - some of our parts when they get processed are so small they get a 0 value in volume field.
