Yes, you can use the service type. It's okay if you don't want traceability. Please consider the case that you want to know which Crane got more booking in a period of time or who had a specific Crane at a specific point of time. You can generate these kinds of reports easily if you have a traceability feature.

Let's consider one more case:- I assume these cranes have their registration number. And in the future, you want to add service, maintenance, and fuel consumption to the system for generating detailed profit reports of individual cranes. In this case, it's better to have additional customization to integrate the Fleet with the Rental module.

So I think, it depends on what functionality you want to have.

Really appreciate your helpI completely agree with you. We have arund 50 cranes and I plan to create a product/equipement for each with individual serial / registration numbers to allow tracebility.

And I am thinking along the line of adding service, maintanance, fuel consumption etc and have tried to look for relevant info but did not succeed. As you said the answr could be customization. I am juststrating with Odoo, so not much knowlwdge in customziation yet (may need external help in that area).
