I wonder if anyone has found a solution to use the Odoo Enterprise Subscriptions app for the following scenario:

  • Customer visits Odoo e-commerce website, purchases a new subscription
  • The subscription is tied to a selection "pack" of storable products e.g A monthly selection of a variety of seasonal chocolates
  • Once per month, the subscription auto-renews and payment is taken. This generates a new SO which triggers via MTO rule to create an manufacturing order for above product as a "kit" BOM
  • MO generated, delivery created and accounts / stock journals updated

I've seen several people asking for a way to use Subscriptions to generate a Sale Order but not sure if anybody found a solution to this? Having tried a few third-party modules, non provide this currently either. The closest being a version of the OCA "Contracts" module which I have further customised.

This business case is not covered in Odoo standard in v15 or before.
The merge between the sale order model and the subscription model is the first step to support this. Currently, the plan is to support this case in v16 standard but it's not merged and is still a work in progress.
The way it should work is that a subscription record is simply an SO record with a flag. Every time the subscription renews, it re-triggers everything an SO would have otherwise triggered. This means the financial flow (invoice, payment, transaction, reconciliation) and the physical flow (PO, MO, WO, DO) or the service flow (task and all that jazz 🎷 ).

Thanks Febrice, much appreciated. Glad to hear it's in the works for V16.
Will have the need for this in V14 and V15 for some clients so may need an alternative until then.

Is there a way to use stockable products with the subscription?
in many videos it is mentioned, but in the end they always use a service.

would Odoo 16 also cover the follwing scenario:

A product can be subscribed to on the website with the e-commerce app and will then be shipped to the customer. The subscription then gets invoiced periodically (monthly) until the subscription ends or auto-renews. Ideally the product is then returned. This does neither seem to be possible in the rental app nor through subscriptions since I can't turn a storable product into recurring revenue and if I make it a consumable with the storable product in the BOM, the inventory stock will not be shown on the website.
