I am working on a helpdesk application and have created an email template for responses. When I reply to user tickets as an agent, the email includes a small company logo in the top-left corner, a "View Helpdesk Ticket" header, and a footer with the company name, email address, and a "Powered by Odoo" message. 

How can I remove these elements and keep just the email content, showing only the message I type in template.

I'm using the online v19.2 with Standard user but I can't find the "Layout" or "Email Layout" field in my email templates, nor can I find where are the mail_notification_layout defined?

Hello,

Yes, this can be achieved in Odoo.

By default, Odoo applies a layout (header & footer) to email templates. To remove these elements:

  • Go to your Email Template

  • Locate the "Layout" or "Email Layout" field

  • Set it to "None" (or remove the external layout if applied)

Alternatively, you can customize or edit the layout template if you still want partial control over header/footer.

This will ensure only your typed message content is sent without the default branding.

In Odoo, the default header and footer in email templates come from the **mail layout** templates. Here's how to remove them:

## Method 1: Override the Mail Layout (Recommended)

The default wrapper is defined in `mail.mail_notification_layout`. You can inherit and strip it:

The exact xpath depends on your Odoo version — class names differ between v14, v16, and v17+. Check the actual template in your version by going to **Settings → Technical → Email → Templates** or searching in the source code under `addons/mail/data/`.

## Method 2: Use a Custom Layout on Specific Templates

If you only want to remove header/footer for **specific** email templates (not globally), set a custom `email_layout_xmlid` on your mail template:

    <field name="email_layout_xmlid">your_module.minimal_layout</field>

```

Then define `minimal_layout` as a bare-bones wrapper with just `${message.body}` and no header/footer markup.

## Method 3: Quick UI Fix

Go to **Settings → Technical → Email → Email Templates**, find the template, and in the **Body** field, set the email layout to "No external layout" (available in v16+). In the template form, look for the **Mail Layout** field.

## Key Tips

- In **Odoo 16+**, the layout selector dropdown was added directly on the mail template form — look for "Email Layout" field.
- In **older versions (v14/v15)**, you'll need the XML override approach.
- Always test with `mail.mail` records — check the `body_html` after sending to confirm the wrapper is gone.
