I have a few issues regarding the reorder rules that I can’t seem to resolve straight away.

In the ‘Stock’ app, you can configure the reorder rules.
For each product, you need to manually set a minimum stock level, and you must place an order when the available stock falls below this minimum level.
Depending on how well a product sells over a certain period, you need to adjust this minimum stock level.

However, you do not receive a notification when it is time to order a particular product; you have to go to this section of the ‘Stock’ app yourself each time to check this overview.
If you are a company with thousands of products, this also becomes unmanageable.

•    Is it possible, for example, to use built-in AI tools to base this minimum stock level on recent sales, taking into account production lead times, rather than a manually set minimum stock level?

•    Is it possible to use automations in Odoo Studio to send an email notification when it is time to order a product?

•    Is it possible to use, for example, smart AI tools to send a weekly report to a specific email address containing an overview of all products that need to be reordered?
This is useful if you work with many products and do not want to receive a new email for every single product.

•    Are there any third-party apps available that we would need to pay for once, which address the issues mentioned above and handle this for us? Would this result in additional custom logic and code that would need to be maintained?

Thank you in advance!

Great question! Here's how to handle dynamic reordering rules based on recent sales in Odoo:

1. Use "Make to Order" + Replenishment Reports:

  • Go to Inventory → Configuration → Reordering Rules
  • Set rules with Min Qty, Max Qty, and Multiple Quantity
  • Use Forecasted Report to review stock needs proactively
2. Auto-adjust Min Stock via Sales History:
  • Enable Replenishment based on sales using Odoo's Putaway + Forecasted Demand
  • Use Average Daily Sales × Lead Time to manually recalculate minimums periodically
3. Get Notifications Automatically:
  • Set up Scheduled Actions (Settings → Technical → Automation) to email when stock hits reorder point
  • Or use Activity scheduling on reordering rules for responsible users
Note: For fully automated demand-driven reordering, consider Odoo's Enterprise Inventory Forecasting module.

Great question! Here's how to handle dynamic reordering rules based on recent sales in Odoo:

1. Use "Make to Order" + Reordering Rules Together:

  1. Go to Inventory → Configuration → Reordering Rules
  2. Set Min Qty based on average sales velocity (manually calculated or via sales reports)
  3. Enable Lead Days to factor in supplier delivery time
2. Automate Minimum Stock Adjustments:
  • Use Inventory → Reporting → Forecasted Inventory to review stock trends
  • Odoo 17/18 supports replenishment suggestions based on demand forecasting
  • Consider enabling Routes → Make to Order for demand-driven procurement
3. Get Notifications:
  • Set up Scheduled Actions to email purchasing managers when replenishment is triggered
  • Use Activity scheduling on reordering rules for manual review reminders
  • Enable Push notifications via Odoo Discuss for stock alerts
For fully automated demand-based reordering, a custom module calculating rolling sales averages can dynamically update Min Qty.

Great question! Here's how to handle dynamic reordering rules based on recent sales in Odoo:

1. Use "Make to Order" + Forecasted Demand:

  • Enable Routes → Replenishment on the product
  • Odoo can calculate reorder quantities based on forecasted demand
2. Automate Min Qty Adjustments:
  • Use Inventory → Replenishment → Orderpoints
  • Enable the Scheduled Action: "Run Reordering Rules" to auto-trigger replenishment
3. Get Notifications Automatically:
  • Go to Settings → Technical → Scheduled Actions
  • Activate "Reordering Rules Scheduler" — this triggers POs/MOs automatically without manual checks
  • Configure email alerts via the replenishment order confirmation
4. For Sales-Based Dynamic Min Qty:
  • Use Odoo custom scheduled actions or third-party modules that calculate average sales velocity and update orderpoint quantities automatically

1. Auto-adjust Min Qty based on sales:

  • Use Replenishment Rules with "Make to Order" route + demand forecasting
  • Enable Inventory Forecasting (Inventory → Reporting → Forecasted Inventory) to review stock vs. demand trends
2. Get notified when replenishment is needed:
  • Go to Inventory → Configuration → Reordering Rules
  • Enable scheduled action: "Run Minimum Stock Rules" — this auto-triggers purchase orders
  • Set up email alerts via Inventory → Settings → email notifications for stock alerts
3. Dynamic min quantity tip:
  • Use Odoo Studio or custom automation to update Min Qty periodically based on average 30/60-day sales using scheduled actions

For advanced demand-based replenishment automation with Indian localization, Alligator Infosoft can help configure this efficiently.

Odoo's standard Reordering Rules are not AI-driven. The minimum and maximum quantities must be configured manually, and Odoo generates replenishment proposals when stock falls below the defined threshold.

Regarding your questions:

1. Dynamic minimum stock based on recent sales and lead times

Not in standard Odoo. Reordering rules are static values. To calculate safety stock and reorder points dynamically from historical sales, seasonality, and supplier lead times, you would need either:

  • A custom module, or

  • A demand forecasting / inventory planning application.

2. Email notifications when products need to be reordered

Yes. This can be implemented using an Automated Action (or custom scheduled action) that periodically checks products with replenishment needs and sends an email. For large inventories, a scheduled summary is generally preferable to individual notifications.

3. Weekly report of products requiring replenishment

Yes. A scheduled action can generate a weekly email containing products that:

  • Are below their minimum stock level, or

  • Appear in the Replenishment report.

This approach is often more practical than receiving separate emails for each product.

4. Third-party applications

Yes. There are inventory planning and demand forecasting applications available for Odoo that provide features such as:

  • Demand forecasting

  • Dynamic reorder points

  • Safety stock calculations

  • Lead-time analysis

  • Procurement recommendations

These solutions are generally more suitable than maintaining custom logic if you manage thousands of SKUs. However, the maintenance requirements depend on the application and whether it modifies standard stock workflows.

For large inventories, the usual recommendation is to use Odoo's Replenishment report as the operational tool and adopt a dedicated forecasting/planning solution if you need automatic calculation of reorder levels based on sales history and lead times.
