Problem printing from POS system with Virtual IoT box

We have virtual IoT box installed on windows 11 with Epson POS printer TM-T88IV.

The receipt is printed, but then the POS system is hanging \ waiting.

We tried ethernet connection and usb.

Anyone who has the same problem ?

This is a well-known issue with the Epson TM-T88IV on Windows Virtual IoT box — the receipt prints fine but POS hangs waiting for a confirmation that never arrives. Here's the specific fix:


The root cause:

The Virtual IoT Box sends the print command via ESC/POS to the printer. The TM-T88IV prints, but the status response it sends back is either not recognized or times out on the Windows Virtual IoT side. Odoo's POS session then stays in a "waiting for printer" state indefinitely.


Step-by-step fix:


  1. Check printer status feedback mode in the Epson driver
  2. Open Epson TM Utility (comes with the printer driver) on your Windows machine. Set the printer's "status" mode to disabled or set it to not require bidirectional status. This prevents the printer from sending status packets that the Virtual IoT Box might not handle correctly.

2. Configure the printer in the IoT Box as "No status checking"

In the Odoo IoT app, go to your IoT Box → Printers → select the Epson TM-T88IV. Check if there is an option to disable status polling. If available, disable it.


3. Try USB instead of Ethernet (or vice versa)

For the TM-T88IV, USB connection often bypasses the status/acknowledgment issue entirely because the Virtual IoT Box handles USB print jobs more simply. Try switching to USB if you haven't fully tested it.


4. Increase the print timeout in IoT Box settings

In the Virtual IoT Box configuration (usually accessible at http://localhost:8069/iot or the IoT Box IP), find the printer timeout setting and increase it. This won't fix the root cause but prevents the hang from blocking the POS indefinitely.


5. Update the Windows Virtual IoT Box

Make sure you're on the latest version of the Windows IoT Box installer. Older versions had known issues with certain Epson printer models. Download the latest from Odoo's IoT documentation page.


6. Check the IoT logs for the exact error

Go to IoT App → your IoT Box card → Download logs. Look for "timeout", "no response", or "status error" after a print job. This will confirm the exact cause and help narrow down whether it's a driver, port, or configuration issue.


For most users, the combination of disabling bidirectional status in Epson TM Utility + updating the Virtual IoT Box resolves this completely. Let us know what you find in the logs!

Hello,

Since the receipt is printing successfully but the POS is hanging afterward, this usually points to a communication delay or missing acknowledgment between the Virtual IoT Box and the printer.

You may want to check:

  • Printer driver compatibility (Epson TM-T88IV with ESC/POS)

  • Network latency or timeout settings

  • IoT Box logs for any response delays after print

  • Try enabling/disabling “skip receipt screen” in POS settings (if applicable)

This behavior is often related to how the system waits for a print confirmation signal.

Hi,

The hanging/waiting after a successful print is a symptom with the TM-T88IV on Windows Virtual IoT. The POS session sends the print job, the printer executes it, but Odoo never receives a proper “done” acknowledgment back. The system then sits waiting for a response that never comes hence the hang. In order to understand what is wrong. Enable developer mode in Odoo, go to the IoT app, click your IoT Box card, and hit “Download logs.” This will usually tell you exactly where the hang is occurring, whether it’s a timeout, a port error, or a missing response from the printer.
The Ethernet connection is generally more reliable for this printer model on Windows Virtual IoT, so stick with Ethernet.
