They both have their advantages and disadvantages. A module bought in the app store is much less expensive compared to custom development. It is often bought by other users, so bugs in early versions are usually fixed. But such an app is usually developed to tailor common use cases, so if you have very specific requirements it is usually better to develop a custom module. It is up to you to decide which is more important.
