Known for his personal touch and forward-thinking ideas — like photographing caskets for families to view — Carl laid the foundation for a company built on honesty and service. After his passing in 1981, his wife Audrey and son CJ grew the business beyond the D.C. area, opening new locations and eventually launching a full manufacturing facility in Florence, Alabama, in 2005, making Thacker the only U.S. casket maker to build both components and finished caskets under one roof.
