Dear All,


We want to configure/integrate Odoo 17.0 with a weighing scale device for a Retail Supermarket where Fruits, Vegetables and Loose items are weighed, packed and sold.  

Is there a default configuration setting that needs to be done to integrate the weighing device with Odoo so that the weight can be captured in Odoo POS Terminals for a product.

The Weighing Device supports both COM port and USB port feature.  How to enable both these options for a POS Terminal in Odoo.

Odoo 17 can work with weighing scales in a retail supermarket setup, but there isn’t a single default switch that automatically enables both USB and COM integration. The key is how the scale communicates with the POS. If the products are configured as “sold by weight” in Odoo and the correct unit of measure is set, the POS side is ready to receive weight values. The remaining step is making sure the hardware can transmit that weight properly.

USB scales sometimes function in HID (keyboard emulation) mode, which allows the device to send the measured weight directly into the active POS field. COM (serial) scales, on the other hand, usually require either Odoo’s IoT Box or a small middleware service that reads the serial data and forwards it to the POS session. In busy fruit and vegetable sections, serial connections are often preferred for stability and continuous output.
