We are trying to move over to odoo and in doing so are testing things out on the local database. We added products and added the quantity of products as we added them to the list. After completing this we added the manufacturing app and tried to "consume" some of the stock. But the on hand quantity stays at 0. Regardless if we update the physical quantity or even the stock locations.

We have another database with Odoo dummy or demo data and the settings are compared and they show exactly the settings enabled for both servers but the test database doesn't have on hand stock. I even tried adding the stock through receipts into the warehouse.

Hi All,

Thanks for the feedback. I found that I had in the setup of the database renamed the warehouse, and shortly after created a storage location of the same name but did not link it to the warehouse, thus all inventory was saved in the location that was not linked to our warehouse creating the "0 on hand" problem.

Hello Roelf,

Yes, this behavior usually happens when stock is not properly validated in Odoo, even if quantities are entered.

In Odoo, “On Hand Quantity” only updates when stock moves are confirmed and validated, not just entered manually. A few things to check:

  • Ensure your Inventory Adjustments are validated (not just saved)
  • If using Receipts, make sure they are confirmed and marked as done
  • Verify that the product type is set to “Storable Product”
  • Check if locations and warehouses are correctly configured and active

In many cases, the issue is due to stock being entered but not properly processed through Odoo’s inventory flow.

It sounds like the stock moves might not be fully confirmed, or there’s a mismatch in locations or company settings. I’d check those first. That usually resolves it, but if you’re still seeing zero on-hand after that, let me know — there’s one other setting that commonly causes this in test databases.
