Hi community, I am confused with the odoo image gallery behaviour, I noticed some options are sometimes present, until I replace the default image to custom image....then suddenly some options are not available anymore. And some of them I need.
For example : MASONRY, see screenshots.
And another strange thing : Image width (available only for odoo default image) : sometimes I see Original + 3 smaller images, but sometimes I see Original + 3 smaller images, one of them marked as "Prefered", once I select it, I dont see the previous options anymore.
The whole behaviour is very inconsistent and uncontrolled to me.
I started to dig deeper and find this once I noticed the website I created uses very large images(1920px width), which scales in the code to much much smaller sizes (I use about 400-500px size normally), which is absolutely NOT SEO friendly, and my results in SEO are poor.
I noticed similar behaviour in other image snippets too, so maybe if anybody can bring light into this to understand why this is and when to expect it and when not (hopefully this is not a bug) ....using v16, CE, on premise.

Why Image Options Disappear

Different image types carry different options
- Odoo's built-in default images (from image_library) include metadata (like mime type) that enables extra options (Masonry, width controls, etc.).
- Once you replace an image with a custom one, that metadata (and associated filters or options) often isn't applied to your new image, so those options disappear.

Large image sizes also matter
- Using very large images (like 1920px wide) means Odoo scales them down aggressively—often stripping out attributes needed for certain display options. That affects editing features and can hurt SEO.
How to Fix It

Use properly pre-processed images
Upload images that already match your target size (e.g., 400–500px width). This helps Odoo preserve options like Masonry and width controls. -
Regenerate the snippet’s metadata
If you’re comfortable with developer mode, clear and rebuild the image metadata or use the “regenerate assets” feature (in debug mode via the bug icon) to refresh filters. -
Apply community patches if needed
Check for recent updates: in v17+, default image attachments were moved into an “updatable” file—this restores compatibility after upgrades.

I am having the same issue in Odoo 18 enterprise. Once I replace the image, I lose the quality slider.
I would assume the fields re-appear after saving and re-entering the Edit view? Sounds like this should be reported as a bug to https://odoo.com/help
