V8.0: adding product variants leads to complete slowdown of system

Hi,

In adding variants for a product, Odoo calculates all possibilities:

(example, an iPad, with variants Colour (black, white) and Size (16 gb, 32 gb) creates 4 products (black, 16, black, 32, white, 16, white, 32)

I noticed that adding several variants and possibilites quickly overloads the system (many many possibilities, of course...)
This makes the variants option unusuable for a template product that the user could build and customize himself according to his needs..

Further tests indicate that the variants options could not be used as it led to a time out.

A work around can be to use not the variants, but options on a product and to build a product template.

It would still be good to hear from people at Odoo regarding the slowdown for the variants. The variants is a really good addition in v8, but the fact that you can only put a few until the system overloads restricts heavily this feature...
