How does Mapping work for the Chart of Accounts?

Question

I see a Mapping tab when looking at a GL Account:

It lists each Company and then a code.

I have read a little about this from https://www.odoo.com/documentation/19.0/applications/finance/accounting/get_started/consolidation.html [1]
I understand it is used to consolidate financial information
when looking at reports for more than one Company / Entity.
The documentation states: Similar accounts from different
companies can be mapped together. This allows Odoo to combine them correctly

BEFORE MAPPING:
Here is the Profit and Loss of the Group in $USD (with ACME
USA as the active Company):

Here is the Profit and Loss of the Group in EUR (with ACME BELGIUM
as the active Company):

AFTER MAPPING:
Here, we have mapped the 4X0000 accounts in ACME USA to the 70000
account in ACME BELGIUM.

SETTING UP THE MAPPING:
For EACH 4X0000 account in ACME USA, map it to the 70000
account in ACME BELGIUM:

For EACH report line, switch the Group By to account
