Attendance Item in Payroll

Question

The attendance item in payroll allows for manual sign in and sign out.

How else can I automate employee in/out? How do I intergrate time and attendance devices(biometrics, barcode, etc.)

For biometrics, devices have their own SDKs. A lot of them are not compatible with Linux, so it's challenging.
For barcode, you can build something like the barcode ui in enterprise version (or better if you can have some front end UI like POS)
