We sell promotional merchandise through Odoo 18 and I wanted to share some of the eCommerce pain points we hit, because I spent ages searching Reddit and forums before we ended up just building our own fixes. Hoping this saves someone else the headache or sparks a discussion about what's missing from the standard website shop.

Colour filtering at scale is a nightmare. If you work with multiple suppliers, your colour attribute explodes. We ended up with 100+ values — Navy, French Navy, Dark Navy, Midnight Blue, Oxford Blue — and the shop filter became completely unusable for customers. The fix was grouping shades into parent categories (Blues, Reds, Greens) so the filter actually makes sense. Surprised this isn't standard functionality given how common multi-supplier catalogues are.

Bulk pricing is invisible to customers. We've got quantity-based pricelists set up, but the default shop just shows a single static price. Customers had no idea they could pay significantly less by ordering more. Three things that made a massive difference for us: showing a "from X to Y" price range on the shop grid, adding a full pricing tier table on the product page, and displaying a message like "order 20 more to get £3.50 each." Our average order value went up noticeably once people could actually see the savings.

No minimum order quantity enforcement. Some of our products have supplier minimums — you can't order fewer than 25 branded pens, for example. Odoo doesn't enforce this on the website. The quantity field happily lets someone order 1. We needed something that sets the default to the minimum and stops customers going below it in the cart.

The search results page is bizarre for a shop. When someone searches your website, they get a plain text list. No images, no prices, no Add to Cart. For an eCommerce store this is baffling. Redirecting search to the /shop page with the search term applied was a simple fix that should honestly be default behaviour.
