How can I view shortages for a specific Sales Order or Manufacturing Order in Odoo 18?

Right now if I want to see a shortage report for a particular SO or MO I have to drill down into the MO/childMO's and scan each one looking for red.  These products are all on the replenish report but I do not see a way to filter them by SO\MO needs.  Is there any way to do this?  Ijust want an easy way to look at a particular SO and see what is missing to complete it.  V18 SH

Great question! In Odoo v18 (Odoo.sh), there's no built-in filter on the Replenishment Report to filter by specific SO or MO directly. However, here are the best workarounds:

**Option 1 – Use the Forecasted Inventory from the Sales Order**

  1. Open your Sales Order → click the "Delivery" smart button
  2. 2. From the delivery, click the "Forecasted" button — this shows forecast per product linked to that delivery
  3. 3. Products in red/negative forecast indicate a shortage for that specific chain

**Option 2 – Use the Manufacturing Order's "Availability" Check**

  1. Open the MO → click "Check Availability"
  2. 2. The components tab will highlight in red any products that are unavailable
  3. 3. You can also click the "Replenish" button directly from the MO for missing components

**Option 3 – Filter Replenishment Report by Source Document**

Go to: Inventory → Operations → Replenishment

In the search bar, use the "Source Document" filter or group by "Source" to filter entries related to a specific SO/MO reference.

**Option 4 – Use Demand Analysis Report**

Go to: Inventory → Reporting → Inventory Analysis

Filter by the demand source or apply a custom filter on move_dest_ids to trace back to the originating SO.

For a more automated "shortage per SO" view with direct filtering, that would require a custom module. If you need that, I can provide a custom module for this — reach out at custom@trewac.com

Hi,
Odoo 18 provides several tools to identify component shortages for specific Sales Orders (SOs) or Manufacturing Orders (MOs). The most effective method is using the Forecasted Report, which can be accessed directly from a product line within an SO or PO via a graph icon, or from a product's form view through the "Forecasted" smart button. This report details stock levels, incoming and outgoing movements, and links them to specific orders, clearly indicating any projected shortages. Additionally, the Manufacturing Orders Overview offers a consolidated view for MOs, highlighting missing quantities and facilitating replenishment. The "Late Availability" filter can also be used to pinpoint MOs where components are not expected to be ready by the deadline, and Allocation Reports help prioritize critical orders when stock is limited.

Hope it helps.

Hi,

For this use case I would not rely on manually opening each MO/child MO and looking for red quantities. You need a shortage view grouped by the demand document.

The useful report would show, for a selected SO or MO:

- required component/product
- required quantity
- available quantity
- forecasted quantity
- shortage quantity
- source MO / child MO
- expected replenishment / purchase / manufacturing date if available

In Odoo terms, the logic usually needs to trace the demand from the SO/MO through stock moves and manufacturing components, then compare required quantities against availability/forecast.

If this is a repeated operational need, it is worth making a small custom report or dashboard rather than training users to inspect every MO manually.

We build Odoo inventory planning workflows at Niyu Labs. This shortage-by-SO/MO view is exactly the type of operational layer that can sit on top of standard Odoo without replacing the core flow.

Hello Tony,

In standard Odoo 18, the Replenishment report is not designed to filter shortages directly by a specific Sales Order or Manufacturing Order. It primarily provides a consolidated view of replenishment needs across all demands.

For a particular SO, the usual approach is to review the related MO(s) and component availability, but as you've noted, this can become cumbersome when multiple child MOs are involved.

If you need a single view showing all shortages tied to a specific SO or MO, this generally requires a custom report, dashboard, or enhancement that traces demand through the manufacturing hierarchy and consolidates missing components in one place.

Hope this works for you! If you need any help implementing this or want a more optimized approach, feel free to reach out for further discussion.
