So a task planning software does not allow setting the start and end of a task… That seems completely crazy to me, but maybe it’s just me.

I can’t upload an image because I don’t have enough points, but there is no “+” icon on my calendar in the “deadline” field.

So I am forced to buy a module like “Gantt” to get this feature.

In Odoo Community, the Project Task model mainly provides the Deadline field by default, which is why you are not seeing a proper start/end scheduling option.

If you need tasks with a real start date/time and end date/time period, this usually requires:

• Additional customization,
• A community module,
• Or using Enterprise features depending on the exact scheduling requirement.

A common approach is to add custom datetime fields and display them in Calendar/Gantt views for proper task planning.

In Odoo 19 Community, tasks only show a single Deadline by default, so you can’t set start/end dates out of the box.

Proper start/end (planned) dates for tasks are mainly exposed via Gantt/planning views and are fully supported in Enterprise; in Community you usually need a small custom module or third‑party app to add those fields to the task form.

In Odoo 19, task start and end dates are managed primarily through the Deadline field. You can check also Assigning Date.(readonly)

In Odoo 19, the task form mainly shows the Deadline field. To set a start and end date, click the Deadline field, then click the small calendar-plus icon in the date picker. This opens the option to set the task duration with start/end dates and times.

If you do not see that option in Community, then it may be limited by the installed Project features or edition. In that case, you can either:

• use the Deadline field only,

• add custom start/end date fields through customization,

• or use Enterprise/Planning/Gantt features if you need full scheduling.

So it is not done directly from the normal deadline calendar unless the extended date/duration option is available.
