I host Events within my organization and I also host them at Venue's outside my organization.

Events have a VENUE field, so you can distinguish that way.
Events can be tagged, so can make Tags - "Internal" and "External".
Events can be created from a Template.
Each of these can be used to differentiate between types of Events, and they are all available to be used to filter (venue, tag, template) and group (venue, tag) from the Reporting Menu.
