Configuration problems in warehouses and locations

UniversalTireShop, Universal Tire Shop

I am testing Odoo, and I started with the inventory configuration.

I created 2 Warehouses called:

warehouse
shop

Then I create locations:

A1 at Warehouse.
A2 at Warehouse
A1 in Shop
A2 in Shop

But when I returned to the Warehouse section, I saw that in "Location Stock" I had the location A1 for Wharehouse and A1 for Shop.

Warehouse Name          Location Stock
Warehouse                        WH/A1
Shop                                  SH/A1

Problem 1:

My warehouse has several locations, why does Odoo automatically put A1 as the main location of my warehouse? If it is only one of several locations?

Problem 2:

What does "Location Stock" really mean? If for Odoo it is a city location, why then does it link to the locations inside a warehouse? It's nonsense.

Problem 3:

If in the Locations section, I change the name of my A1 location, the name is automatically changed in the Warehouse section. But only in the first 2 location creations. Does it mean that the first location creations are the physical locations of the warehouse? I don't understand.

Problem 4: The Odoo documentation on the creation of warehouses and locations does not reflect the real unnecessary complexity that it has. Someone has to document properly.

Question: Is there someone who has had this problem, who can explain to me how to solve it?

Thank you!

There is a difference between warehouse and location. If storage locations feature is disabled, its just like saying your warehouse isnt sectioned which is the case for most places. But once location is enabled the reason is most likely because you want to mange several locations in your warehouse seperately.

On enabling storage locations, odoo automatically creates a new location (main location) per warehouse and puts all your stock from the respective warehouses in the respective locations (because where else would your stock be?). You can then go into locations page and create a new location and choose a parent location which can be another location or a warehouse. Location systems have hierarchy. So you can have something like

  • WH/A1
  • WH/A2
  • WH/A1/A1
  • WH/A1/A2
  • SH/A1
  • SH/A2

the first part of the hierarchy is always the warehouse. A1 and A2 are actually on the same level but because A1 was created first when you enabled storage locations that becomes the new default location for your new operations such as reciepts (because where else would it be?). These defaults can always be changed.

If location A1 of your warehouse (i.e WH/A1) had subsections, they would be represented as WH/A1/A1 and WH/A1/A2 on the list. It all seems perfectly logical to me.

Ok I understand that when creating a warehouse, Odoo automatically creates a location, until now I understood that it could work as a receiving area or waiting area. And then when you create a purchase order and receive the merchandise, you will be able to specify the physical location. It is correct right? Thank You!

In Odoo, the location stock is the default location for a warehouse where the stock for that warehouse is located. This means that when you receive stock for that warehouse, it will be automatically put in that location.

As for your other questions, it is possible that the default location for a warehouse is set to A1, but you can change it to any location you want. Additionally, changing the name of a location in the Locations section will also change its name in the Warehouse section. This is because both sections are linked and share the same information.

If you have any further questions, it is best to reach out to the Odoo support team for assistance. They will be able to provide you with more detailed information and help you resolve any issues you may be having.
