We are currently using Odoo 15 and reviewing the official support timeline.

We noticed that Odoo 15 shows “Extended support available (with an extra fee)”, and we would like some clarification on the following points:

  1. Until when will extended (paid) support be available for Odoo 15?
Is there a specific end date for extended support after the standard support ended in October 2024?
  2. What exactly does “Not Supported” mean in this context?

    • Does it mean that the version will no longer be available for download or installation?
    • Or can we still download and continue using Odoo 15, but without official updates, bug fixes, or security patches?

We are currently planning a migration strategy and want to better understand the implications of continuing on Odoo 15 versus upgrading to a newer version like Odoo 17.

Any clarification or official references would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance for your help!

Hello,
You can continue to run, download, and install Odoo 15 indefinitely. As of late 2024, Odoo 15 is no longer part of the current versions like V16, V17 and V18. So, No more free security updates and No more free bug fixes available.

The "Extended Support" mentioned in the documentation is essentially an insurance policy for companies that are not yet ready to migrate. It requires a 25% surcharge on your annual subscription.
https://www.odoo.com/documentation/17.0/legal/terms/enterprise.html#services

I strongly recommend you to migrate it into newer version to boost performance with modern UI and concepts.
Let me know if you have still doubts on this
Thanks

In Odoo each major version usually follows a predictable lifecycle: a period of standard support followed by a shorter extended support phase.

For Odoo 15 the timeline is roughly as follows:

  • Release: October 2021
  • End of standard support: October 2024

After this date the version moves into extended support, which is available only for customers with an additional paid agreement.

How long does extended support last?

Odoo typically provides extended support for a limited period after the standard support ends (usually around one additional year). During this time only critical fixes and security updates may be delivered, and mainly for supported hosting environments such as Odoo.sh or Enterprise deployments.

What does “Not Supported” mean?

When a version becomes not supported, it does not mean the software disappears or stops working. It simply means that Odoo no longer provides:

  • new bug fixes
  • security patches
  • official maintenance or technical support

Can you still download and use Odoo 15?

Yes. The code remains available, and on-premise installations can continue running normally. However, the system will run without official updates, so over time it may become more difficult to maintain or secure.

For that reason many companies plan their upgrade during or shortly after the extended support phase. Moving to a more recent version such as Odoo 17 ensures continued security updates and compatibility with newer modules and integrations.

Hello Amar,

Great question this is a common point of confusion.

  • “Extended support” (paid) for Odoo 15 typically continues for a limited period after standard support ends (October 2024), but Odoo does not always publish a fixed end date. It’s best to confirm directly with Odoo or your partner for the exact timeline.
  • “Not Supported” means:

    • You can still use, download, and install Odoo 15
    • However, there will be no official bug fixes, security patches, or updates

So technically, your system will keep running, but from a security and long-term stability perspective, planning an upgrade (e.g., to Odoo 17) is strongly recommended.

Hope this works for you! If you need any help implementing this or want a more optimized approach, feel free to reach out for further discussion

Regards,

Odoo follows a roughly 3-year support cycle per major version. Here's how it breaks down for v15:

- **Odoo 15** was released in October 2021.
- It received **bug fix support** until October 2023 (2 years).
- **Extended support** (security fixes only for Enterprise) ran until approximately October 2024.
- As of now (2025), **Odoo 15 is effectively end-of-life** — no official patches from Odoo SA for either Community or Enterprise.

**What this means practically:**

- **Enterprise customers**: No more security patches. Odoo SA will strongly encourage migration to v17 or v18.
- **Community users**: Community edition never had formal "extended support" from Odoo SA — it relies on the OCA (Odoo Community Association) and community contributors for maintenance. OCA typically maintains branches a bit longer, but v15 OCA modules are also winding down in active maintenance.

**What should you do?**

1. **If you're on v15 Community** — start planning migration to v17 or v18. The jump from 15→18 is significant (especially OWL framework changes, new asset bundling, field changes), so budget time for it.
2. **If you're on v15 Enterprise** — contact your Odoo partner about migration timelines. Running unsupported versions in production is a security risk.
3. **If migration isn't feasible yet** — at minimum, lock down external access, apply any community security patches from OCA, and monitor for CVEs affecting your Python/PostgreSQL stack.

One practical tip: before migrating, run `click-odoo-contrib` or OpenUpgrade to assess module compatibility. OpenUpgrade has decent coverage for 15→16→17 paths.

If you're an Indian SME running v15 Community with GST modules and custom manufacturing workflows, migration needs careful planning since GST module structures changed significantly in later versions.
