✔️ Step 1: Enable Free User Signup on the Website

1. Go to Website → Configuration → Settings

2. Under Privacy

3. Enable “Free sign up in customer account”

➡️ This activates the Sign Up button so students can create their own accounts.

✔️ Step 2: Enable Developer Mode

1. Go to Settings

2. Click Activate Developer Mode

This unlocks access to Groups and permissions configuration.

✔️ Step 3: Create a Student Access Group

1. Go to Settings → Users & Companies → Groups

2. Click Create

3. Name the group (e.g., Students or Pending Students)

4. Save it

This group will hold the students waiting for approval.

✔️ Step 4: Add Newly Registered Users to Your Student Group

1. Stay on the Group Form page you just created

2. Scroll to the Users section

3. Click Add to attach users who signed up

⚠️ Note: By default, Odoo filters the list to show only internal users.

If you don’t see the student accounts:

• Remove the filter (click the small X next to Internal Users)

➡️ The full list of registered users will appear, including portal users, and you can add students to the group.

✔️ Step 5: Define Access Rights for This Group

Inside the group form, configure:

• What menus students can see

• What records they can view or edit

• Whether they stay portal-only or have additional privileges

This gives you full control over student access.
