Hi
I have my bank account set up with Sequence Prefixes eg: 
ABC1 - for ABC Bank account
XYZ1 - for XYZ Bank account

I thought these prefixes would be used in the Journal entries eg: ABC1/25-26/0033 
However all the journal entries show BNK1/25-26/0033 (etc).

It's a simple thing but I am wondering if I missed something. 


On the ? for a hint under the Sequence Prefix it says:
Shorter name used for display - The journal entries of this journal will also be named using this prefix by default.

All the transactions are showing BNK1 (different accounts and Prefixes)

29 Mar BNK1/25-26/0213
28 Mar BNK1/25-26/0212
27 Mar BNK1/25-26/0534

27 Mar BNK1/25-26/0211

If it is something I need to correct I'd rather do it now at the beginning, or maybe I was mis thinking what the prefix did.

Hello,

Yes, this is achievable in Odoo, but it depends on how the journal entry sequence is configured.

The "Sequence Prefix" field you mentioned is more of a display hint and does not always control the actual numbering unless the journal is linked to its own dedicated sequence.

If all your entries are showing BNK1, it likely means:

  • Multiple bank journals are using the same sequence, or
  • The sequence linked to the journals still has BNK1 as its prefix.

You may want to check:

  • The sequence assigned to each bank journal
  • Whether each journal has its own unique sequence with the correct prefix (ABC1, XYZ1, etc.)

If needed, you can create separate sequences per journal and assign them accordingly.

Hi,

In Odoo, once a journal is created:

    It gets linked to an ir.sequence
    That sequence has its own prefix
    After that, changing the journal’s “prefix/code” does NOT update the sequence automatically

You need to create separate journals per bank and set prefix at creation time.
